Saint-Tropez is the far end of the coast from Beaulieu and the run is half the pleasure of it. The captain picks the glassiest day of your stay and you take the offshore line past the Esterel with nothing either side of you.

The old port is small enough to walk in ten minutes and the Pampelonne beaches are a short hop around the headland. Most days here are a long lunch and a swim, and back along the coast with the light going.

It is the one destination worth planning the week around rather than fitting into it.

Vieux Port de Saint-Tropez, Quai Suffren. Boarding is at the pontoon rather than a desk, and the day starts the moment you step aboard.
